Mikela Frey

Program Assistant PPR1, PPBB, PPR2, PPR3, CPIM

Mikela Frey was born in Arbon, Thurgau, where she grew up in a bilingual environment (Croatian and German) with her parents and younger sister, before moving to Goldach, St.Gallen. After completing her commercial apprenticeship at KS Kaderschule St.Gallen, she spent five years working in the International Office there and as a student advisor for postgraduate studies and business administration courses. In June 2002, she left KS Kaderschule and went to Honolulu (Hawaii) for five months, where she took a business English course. In September 2003, she started her job at the FHS St.Gallen’s Knowledge Transfer Unit. In the beginning, she was also working for the International Office, which was linked to the Knowledge Transfer Unit back then. Until February 2014, her main duties included organisational activities for real-life student consulting projects and consulting projects in the USA and China, as well as project management for the WTT YOUNG LEADER AWARD. At the beginning of April 2014, she took her first spell of maternity leave for six months, before returning to work part time at the Knowledge Transfer Unit on 1 October 2014. Mikela went on maternity leave again at the beginning of March 2016. She has been back at the Knowledge Transfer Unit WTT-FHS since the beginning of November 2016.

What are your duties at the WTT-FHS?

Until February 2014, I was responsible for organisational tasks relating to real-life student consulting projects, for planning and coordinating the international projects with the USA and China, for maintaining the WTT website, for the financial management of the WTT-FHS and for project management for the WTT YOUNG LEADER AWARD. Since halving my hours, my duties have changed a bit. I no longer handle the project management for the WTT YOUNG LEADER AWARD.

How would you describe yourself?

A determined, helpful and open-minded person who is always interested in new things...

What does a perfect weekend look like for you?

Dad looks after the kids, and Mum gets to sleep in :-)
But also a good mix of activities, relaxation and fun.

What three things would you take with you to a lonely desert island?

Hm, is there an internet connection there? Mobile phone, water and food.

Who do you find fascinating, and why?

I’m fascinated by beautiful, untouched landscapes. When it comes to people, then definitely those who risk their lives for others (in war zones, natural disasters, etc.).

Is there anything else that you absolutely want to do in your life?

There’s so much I want to do, but life is short, unfortunately. When the children are older, I’d like to travel more again and discover the world.

What makes you happy?

Seeing how my children change from day to day and being there when they learn something new. But I also like going shopping ;-)

What is the nicest place in St.Gallen, and why?

The “Drei Weieren” ponds – a little haven close to the city.

10 years from now, I’ll... just let life surprise me.
